Know your reasons to stop

Make a list of all your reasons for wanting to quit. The list can range from " avoidance of ill health " to " being able to take up a sport ". Everyone knows there are huge health benefits to stopping smoking. We also know, but don't like to admit it as a smoker, that smokers smell, prematurely age, feel like a slave to a bad habit - not to mention the anti-social association that smokers have.

Here are the common reasons people wish to stop. You may find that many relate to you and you may even have a few more to add:

— You want to live longer
— Smoking is taking a toll on your health
— Your skin is ageing as a smoker
— You wish to be a responsible role model to your children
— You're fast becoming the odd one out at work and socially
— It smells, you smell and your clothes smell
— You feel like a slave to it
— You want control back in your life
— You want your freedom back
— You hate the taste
— You want to wake up refreshed and alert
— You're spending untold amounts on cigarettes
— It breaks your concentration
— It reduces your chances of romance with a non-smoker
— It looks unattractive
— You noticed your breathing is laboured
— You hate that cough
— You don't want to worry anymore
— You want peace of mind
— You see yourself as weak
